calm cookies

cookies01

This past week has been filled with quite a bit of chaos. New puppy craziness, less time to work or sleep, children with fevers,  a broken dishwasher. When life gets like this and I feel the chaos starting in on me I always find calm in the kitchen.

My sweet friend Lesley often leaves cookies on my doorknob. Around here we refer to her cookies as “Lesley cookies”.  They are big and delicious, full of butter and chocolate chips… totally unapologetic cookies. Last week there were a new type of Lesley cookies on our doorknob, even better than the original. So good I had to make some myself… and I want to share the recipe with you.

Lesley’s Other Cookies

2/3 cup butter

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 white sugar

Cream until fluffy

beat in 1 egg

and 1/2 tsp vanilla

1 1/2 cup of oats

1/2 cup coconut (unsweetened, medium dessicated)

1/2 cup flour

Stir up. Add handfull of raisins or chocolate chips. Drop into cookie pans, bake at 375 degrees. 10-15 minutes until brown around egdes.

… and in the tradition of Lesley you must go hang some on someone’s doorknob. Enjoy!

We spent the weekend basking in the joy of a new puppy. So happy to have little Birdie home with us for keeps. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend too.

knitting makes my heart happy

mylittlehearts

I’ve been in a bit of a knitting funk this last little bit, but knitting these little Valentine’s presents for the girls helped get me out of it. Now all I want to do is knit! The free pattern for them can be found here. (link via Soulemama ) I decided to not felt them, but did add eyes. 🙂

Now that I’m back in the swing of things, I’d really like to make this shawl over at 100% rain. I think it would be much more attractive than the ratty old fleece blanket you can usually find me wrapped up in these chilly days. Speaking of blankets… do you think I can squeeze one of these in too? (link via Dottie Angel)

paper plate portraits

Sosi made these paper plate portraits of me and Paul. Paul is looking a little hairy, and I’m challenging my inner Annie. 🙂  I love them!

rainbow party, part 2

rainbow04

The rainbow party was a success! We had so much fun getting ready for it and the kids all seemed to have a great time. We made these super easy and cute hanging rainbows (made with paper plates!).

The cake… was amazing. It was totally gone by the end of the party, a sure sign of a good cake!

The best part of this party was seeing my sweet little girl this happy.

We ‘ll so lucky to have her in our lives.

small fancy is back

puppy

We took a little extra long holiday over at Small Fancy, but this week we’re back! The theme is “Reasons against/for getting a dog”

Oh yeah, we’re getting a puppy! We don’t get her until the middle of Februrary though, not sure how we’re going to wait that long.

party preparations have begun!

rainbows01

A certain little girl will be turning 6 in less than a week and the birthday party preparations are in full swing!

January is certainly not the most fun month for a birthday, so we thought a rainbow theme would be good. Boy, were we right! (Instructions for hanging rainbows can be found here, link via Elsie Marley)

rainbows02

I love getting the decorations up early, so she has all week to feel special and excited… and who doesn’t love giant tissue paper pompoms hanging in their living room?! (instructions here)

We still have lots of our sleeves, like a rainbow pinata, rainbow face painting and a rainbow cake! I’ll keep you posted.

slow going

iza

I just finished this for a little girl just born in Vancouver.

Work ‘s been slow going in these parts. I’ve had my girl home with me for almost 2 weeks. Her school was closed due to mould. She starts tomorrow at a new school, where her 11 year old cousin also goes… she’s pretty excited about that!

Snow gnome

forestgnome

What do you do when the world gives you snow, snow and more snow? You go snowshoeing!

We spent most of the weekend exploring the forest in a close by park. So beautiful, quiet and other-worldly with all the snow. Sosi decied to wanted to live there and even had a home picked out for us under a large pine tree… she cried when we had to go home.

matching big foots

tee01

One of my gifts to the girls this Christmas were matching Bigfoot tees. Trying to get a picture of them both in them has been a challenge! Ila loves the shirt but wants to wear nothing but “monkey jammies”  and Sosi doesn’t like pictures being taken of her lately.

The shirts are beautifully made, I’m really happy with them. You can get yours here.

Happy weekend folks!

a blur of days

I’m finding it hard to get back into the swing of things after such a wonderful blur of days. Sosi’s been doing most of the drawing around here these past couple weeks, it’s now my turn to get back at it!

I’ve been busy making fabric portraits these past couple of weeks. I love working on these more than anything lately. So fun.

Now it’s time to get busy with some last minute Christmas knitting and gift wrapping!
